Internet Access through DBS

Hughes' first was called DirectPC. This provided subscribers with KU-band internet service through a second dish and receiver. In 2001, he upgraded to DirecWay. This two-way system offers users speed of satellite transmission for both uploads and downloads. This eliminated the need for a second line to surf the net. Again, in 2006, Hughes' upgraded and called this upgrade HughesNet. This system uses the same KU-band delivery system as previous, but uses smaller, more powerful modem. It automatically upgrades software over the internet. It uses a more robust Ethernet computer connection and provides built in IP router. IT costs nearly $600 upfront and a 15 month commitment at $59.99 per month.
